How Do Stellate Ganglion Blocks Work?
When you come to our Chino, CA practice for a Stellate Ganglion Block, you will be escorted to a private treatment room. While you are resting face-up on the treatment table, we will begin by checking your blood pressure and inserting an intravenous catheter (IV). Saline and medication will be delivered through the IV to help you relax. After the skin on your right shoulder and neck are cleansed, we will locate the appropriate spots for injection. You will be asked not to talk, cough, or swallow during the procedure, as this can cause the needle to be displaced. Using ultrasound technology, the needle will be guided into place, and the medication will be slowly injected. After injection, you will need to lie flat for five minutes. We will assess the benefits of the treatment and monitor you for 30 – 45 minutes before you are discharged from our facility. You will not be able to drive or operate heavy machinery after the procedure, so you will need to bring someone with you to drive you home once you are discharged. You may experience some bruising and soreness for a few days after treatment, but this should subside after a few days.
